Tutor Support and Webinars

OBS is offering the learners a chance to access online tutor support. The tutor has a specialization in a particular module so learning becomes very easy.

Students can also be a part of the Social Learning Forum in which teachers and students interact and share information. It is absolutely free. Students can also form their own support groups through the forum to assist in their learning process.

Open webinars are conducted in areas of general interest for grouped learning. Thereby providing interaction amongst teachers and students whereas recorded web-casts will provide learning on certain specific subjects.

Social Learning Forum

The social forum is accessible to all OBS students across the globe. It is a useful tool as students can receive information and help from other OBS students. Not only will a student learn on his own terms, but he can provide assistance to others who are studying the same course as them. Social learning and interaction is a big factor in good quality learning on the OBS courses.

Exchange of knowledge is favoured and new perspectives are embraced by the new learners. Students can motivate their class mates by setting up group discussions and research oriented studies. All this is conducted online and those students, who have never personally met each other, can get a chance to interact with each other for a comprehensive and accommodating approach to learning.

The learning individual modules have their own forums. The students will be able to monitor their own learning with the help of a safe network that is constantly being observed and scrutinized by the administrators of OBS.

OBS Assessments

Each OBS module has a 1 hour online Multiple Choice Assessment (MCA) which will test your understanding and knowledge of the module content and related learning outcomes. Our African students may choose to buy assessments as part of a full university pathway or as part of a package.

Taking an Assessment

Our learners in Africa must understand that knowledge of particular module details, as well as the additional references included in the modules, will be needed to answer questions in the assessment. So you must carefully revise the content before you take an assessment, especially if the subject matter specifies the learning outcomes which are being tested. The questions in your assessment are generated randomly and focus on the specified learning outcomes of the modules. Therefore none of the tests will include the same questions.

The online test will time out automatically after the completion of the scheduled 1 hour. You will then be certified with either “Pass” or “Refer.” A Pass certification will be counted as credits when you apply for an accredited university programme. However, a Refer will indicate that you were unable to reach the required pass rate and you will have to retake the assessment for that particular module.

Assessment Retakes

If you have to retake the test, then you will be required to repurchase the assessment (but not the particular module) through your shopping basket. You can only buy assessments if you have already purchased the corresponding module. Retakes are targeted at the same learning outcomes but consist of different questions. Moreover, all assessment papers will be unique and different especially when assessments are taken inside a classroom environment.

After you complete the assessment, your paper will be automatically checked and scored. The result of the test will be emailed to you immediately in the form of a Certificate of Completion if you pass. If you are unable to pass the first retake, then you will receive a formal notification of refer and further instructions for another retake.

ATHE Assignments (ASG)

After the successful completion of all the module online assessments at Undergraduate or Postgraduate level, our students from Africa will become eligible to advance to the ATHE assignments (ASG) at level 4, 5 and 7. This consists of 8 written assignments which you can complete over a period of 12 weeks after you have finished and passed 50% of the assessments. ATHE assignments will be emailed to you on request which you will need to return electronically after completion. Each ATHE assignment (ASG) is approximately 3000 words. These have been developed to test your knowledge, application and understanding of the learning outcomes. After passing the ASG, you will have the option to progress to a University Top-up programme

If you are pursuing the level 6 Management Diploma, then you will have a single OBS accredited assignment. This will make you eligible for specific master’s level Management programmes.

Computer Outage During Assessments

Unfortunately OBS cannot make allowances for the student’s system failure or downtime during assessments. You must take every necessary precaution to make sure that your power supply is secured and your computer system is robust.

However, if the OBS system fails at all during an assessment, the Online Business School will refund in full. Your test will be retained up to the point of outage. When the computer outage is our responsibility, OBS will give credit to the student whereby you will be able to complete the test free of charge.

Final Assignments

Our students in Africa will have the chance of successfully completing a series of 8 work-based assignments which are authenticated to fast track you to the final year of a full-time BA Honours Degree or the final phase of an MBA degree at an affiliated university. These assignments act as a bridge between completing Undergraduate/Postgraduate modules and online assessments.

OBS Assignment Details

The assignments may be college-based or work-based; however, it is imperative that these must relate to a real-life situation. The assignments are designed in such a way that it provides you the opportunity to display your understanding and knowledge related to all the learning outcomes included in the programme. You will be issued the assignments along with the guidelines before beginning this stage. These are usually delivered electronically by OBS to the learners and should also be submitted electronically for marking.

As a student of the Online Business School, you will be provided the 8 assignments after you have successfully completed and passed 50 per cent of your programme. You must complete the assignments within a period of 12 weeks of completion of the final module as well as corresponding MCA.

Objectives of Assignments

The final assignments incorporate all the knowledge that you have gained from the course modules. This gives our students in African nations the opportunity to gain work-based experience in the key subjects that are needed to progress into the final year of a university degree and advance to a rewarding professional career in any commercial sector.

You can also apply for the ATHE assignments (ASG) pack after you have successfully completed and passed 50 per cent of your MCA programmes.

Mentors for Assignments

As an OBS Africa student, you will be required to nominate a mentor for your assignments and also provide an updated resume. In this regard, a mentor can be a senior company official or your direct manager at work or it can also be an academic head of acceptable standing.

Your mentor is expected to counsel and guide you through each of your assignments, wherever appropriate. Furthermore, your mentor also needs to sign off the piece of work on completion as representing the students and representing the students’ own work. Both OBS and ATHE reserve the right to contact and communicate with any and all the mentors, if needed, during the course of the assignments or on its completion. It is necessary that the mentor agrees to such contact.

Assignments Marking Scheme

The marking scheme of the assignments focuses on evidence that the each of the learning outcomes set by OBS within the modules have been properly met, particularly in terms of understanding and knowledge. Marking helps to examine how you or any of our African students have undertaken any research required; if the recommendations and conclusions have efficacy and validity; and the structure and consistency of the assignments as well as coherence and general presentation.

After completion, you may be required to take a final remote oral examination or viva voce with your mentor. This will help to verify any unclear and ambiguous aspect of your assignment and work.

When you complete the process successfully, you will graduate with a QAA approved Undergraduate or Postgraduate Diploma. OBS qualifications are recognised by all major universities in UK, Africa and other parts of the world. Our qualifications are also recognised by OFQUAL, the leading Government body for academic standards in Higher Education in UK.
